Henry Serrano: "In 2004 we had six people from the community, in 2005 we had five people that we were able to use – hire them as outreachers. And able to use that as a way of teaching people entry level organizing skills. How do you door-knock, developing messages, accountability, the arithmetic of organizing, mobilizing people to events. […] One of the opportunities I think that came up unexpectedly, even though it had already been a culture of the organization, was that we got to use the funding that we got to do the electoral work and meet some electoral goals to meet another goal which was also training people in the community in organizing skills."
